Geometry is one of the fundamental topics in elementary mathematics; however, many students experience difficulties in understanding geometric concepts due to the abstract nature of the material and the limited use of contextual learning media. Integrating ethnomathematics into learning through culturally relevant teaching aids is considered a promising approach to enhance students' conceptual understanding. This study aims to examine the utilization of a tumpeng teaching aid based on ethnomathematics to improve elementary school students' understanding of geometric concepts. The research addresses the following question: How does the use of an ethnomathematics-based tumpeng teaching aid influence students' understanding of geometry concepts? This study employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest model. The participants consisted of elementary school students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using pretest and posttest instruments that measured students' conceptual understanding of geometry and were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings indicate that the implementation of the ethnomathematics-based tumpeng teaching aid significantly improved students' understanding of geometric concepts. Students demonstrated better ability to identify geometric shapes, understand their properties, and relate mathematical concepts to real-life cultural contexts. These results suggest that ethnomathematics-based teaching aids provide meaningful learning experiences, increase student engagement, and support the development of conceptual understanding in elementary mathematics learning.
