Eksplorasi Pengalaman Mahasiswa Universitas Terbuka tentang Peran Ketersediaan Fasilitas Belajar terhadap Semangat dan Pencapaian Akademik

Abstract

The necessity for student autonomy and the availability of learning facilities are demands that emerge in distance learning. Psychological factors that limit the smooth flow of learning process are sometimes still due to technical problems like specification limitations of electronic devices and internet connection. The purpose of the researcher is to learn about the experiences of Open University students on how the availability of learning facilities impacts their motivation and academic performance. The researcher utilized the qualitative method with the use of descriptive techniques wherein data were collected using open-ended questionnaires that were distributed through Google Forms to current students of Open University. From the results and discussion of the study, it is revealed that facility-related problems, particularly unstable internet connection and lack of laboratory facilities, may cause academic stress and delays in completing assignments. Despite all these challenges, the students managed to keep up with their academic performance due to some adaptations in their academic routine, like time management – e.g. submission of assignments earlier – in addition to allocating some reserve in data allowance and having very good perseverance while studying. In terms of recommendations, it would be important to continuously upgrade the e-learning servers when the deadline of assignments approaches and have more flexibility when it comes to the independent practical assignments.
